Why do people chat so much?

While you chat on text format you have following advantages which are not there when you are face to face.

1. You get that extra time to frame your answers and further questions without the scrutiny of a keen pair of eyes.
2. Your appearances does not matter.
3. Your presence of mind does not matter as much. You have time to be funny or witty.
4. Your facial expression do not matter and you can easily fake an expression.
5. It's easier to lie.
6. It's easier to say the truth.
7. It's gives us a blanket of no direct onslaught.

Basically, you are a better version of yourself.

When it comes to a face to face rendezvous:

1. A slight uninterest in the face of the person who is listening to your well formulated crap puts you off. And the person gives it away till he/she can feign any interest.
2. You take a little more time than spontaneity to frame you witty one liners.
3. A uncombed stand of hair or unshaven beard or a pimple or poorly ironed shirt has already depleted half of your confidence.
4. And so on.
